My Photoshoots (part 2) by Jessica Mellott
October 9, 2007 by Jessica MellottHi Everyone,
Many of you have asked me some questions about my photos. So I thought I would answer some of them here.
What does your headshot look like?
Even though I started performing when I was 5, I waited till I was 15 to get my first professional head shot. The shot is by Harriet Wise of Harriet Wise Photography.

In early 2006 Roy Cox of Roy Cox Photography took a bunch of snaps of me in a brown tee shirt. I couldn’t decide which one I liked best. So I changed my headshot depending on my mood! Which one do you like best?

Roy also took this black and white shot for when I need a B&W shot.
Later, James Bender of Imagine Studios took the pic I call “Ooh la la” and that image is what I use for my headshot today and is my most popular picture. It is also the picture I autograph and include in my “fan packs”.

You get a lot of comments on your pictures. Do you ever get any you don’t like?
Honestly I do sometimes get comments that are not family appropriate. Since I do have fans of all ages, I just don’t approve those comments.
What is the craziest comment you have ever gottten on a picture?
Well I have gotten a lot of interesting comments. On the “Ooh la la” (the red dress picture above) someone wrote that I had the “most exquisitely beautiful nostrils they had ever seen”. On the picture below “Laying in the Grass”, a girl wrote and asked me sincerely how I got such clean shaven under![]()
arms!

I like that “Ooh la la” picture. Can you tell me more about it?
Sure I knew I had an upcoming photo shoot and heehee “not a thing to wear” so I was looking through some Victoria’s Secret catalogs. I wanted something bright but simple. I ordered it a couple days before the shoot and whooohooo it fit and I love it! The picture was taken by James Bender on the porch of a historic house at Renfrew Park in PA. Here is another shot of me in the dress being silly on the bridge.

Where is your favorite place to be photographed?
I love to shoot outdoors. I love the scenery. It provides such a beautiful backdrop. But at my recent Baker Park shoot, it was really hot, over 100 degress.

And of course shooting outdoors has it’s challenges. At the park I posed in the middle of the street and dodged cars! I also climbed up a fountain wall in 5 inch leopard heels and tried not to fall in!

So I could get that one special pic!

For one shoot I posed in the middle of a guitar shop while customers were buying sheet music and checking out the instruments. At another I was on a bandshell while they were setting up for show that night. They kindly let me hop on top of the equipment! It was surprisingly comfy
How do you know how to pose for a photograph?
Sometimes the photographer will tell me what to do. They will tell me how to position myself so they can capture my eyes, or where to stand for best lighting.
Sometimes I will close my eyes to capture a mood.

Most of the time I just have a good time. I dance, goof off, vamp it up…”Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”!

Till Next time!
